I left my heart in...

My volunteer group had a fun trip to San Francisco today.. 'twas great, I love those people tons. Rushing to get my iPod stocked with albums I hadn't gotten around to uploading, I was totally crunched on time.. thus for my lack of an adequate, time-devoted outfit. (Wow, do I sound like the typical girl... haha.) However, I think I did decent for the less-than-5 minutes I spent looking at my wardrobe for something!

However, one problem that I am having.. I have only very recently became more invested in my clothing and seeking inspiration, fashion-wise. However, from years of dressing like a boy, then phasing into years of dressing of effortless nonchalance (translating to a closet full of t-shirts and a few random "special"-ish pieces here and there), the new, more fashion-conscious phase is much more difficult to pull off than I had hoped. And this provides as a meager (please pardon if also convoluted) transition to my current question to readers...

How does one use their present hum-drum wardrobe to create a much more fashion-forward self?

Of course, don't regard this as one (well, me) wishing to create a completely new look that is nothing like who I am. I just find myself opening up to new worlds of fashion, and the mentioned inspiration is so plentiful that its ratio to my funds is sorely disproportional. A brand-new wardrobe is definitely not within reach. Basically... how do I make use of what I got?!

However, to revert back to the first piece of agenda that I mentioned... today's clothes!

I swear this looks (looked) better in person, haha.

Anyhow, I took this flowy-ish kind of top that I found in JCP for like five bucks (ultimate fashion bloggers are probably cringing right now). I tucked it into a pair of Glo jeans from Mervyns (mix it up with a grimace) that I turned into skinnies. And that belt is none others than a trade I did with Kelly at some party.

We don't wear shoes around my house, but it wasn't much anyhow -- just a pair of nude flats with this elastic band that I picked up at Target.

This next picture shows the jacket I wore with my outfit... ooh-wee was it cold in SF! From 90's to high 50's.. not the easiest transition, haha. I got this at a local trendy/mainstream boutique, Citiwear. Pretty comfy, but cold air definitely makes its way through.

Anyhow.. thoughts? Suggestions? Feel free to post!
We also stopped by this accessories shop (I think this was my second time there).. a lot of it was much too trendy/glam for me, but this one chain caught my eye..

The rest of the chain was just a plain gold chain (not real, of course), and even though it was a mere seven bucks, I was thinking with a practical mind -- I almost never wear jewelry, much less something as in your face as this. It could just be the clarity of this picture, but I'm having second thoughts on my decision now... your thoughts?!

And of course, some silly pictures, for your entertainment. :) (Or not?)

Another tacky find that I found. Yuck, right? But they were so gross that I just had to try them on... sorry if your eyes hurt, hahah.

Some taffy samples from a store! I tried one (it was.. pink flavored, haha) and it wasn't that good. But they were such cute colors I took a few of 'em so for keepsakes!

I hope you guys enjoyed this post! I know I did. :)

And readers! Please feel free to comment with... comments (reiteration much?), or suggestions, or with anything you'd like to see in upcoming posts.. the blog may contain my thoughts, but it definitely involves you too!

Coming soon... ALL ABOUT DRESSES! :)

Simplicity (super long post)

Hey (scarce) readers. My apologies for the lack of posts.. My summer has essentially consisted of merely anything thin and light as to not melt in this ridiculous heat (I'm a sucker for baggy white t-shirts!). We JUST got over a triple-digit period... in the 90's now. Makes it very hard to be fashionable, so I thought I'd also incorporate some inspiring fashion posts into the mix.

The leotard!

(AA)

I am in love with the scooped back, I find it creates a sort of elegance on thinner girls like me, yet still maintains the sense of conservative...-ness. (As you may or may not know, I am ridiculously conservative when it comes to dressing myself... I am always afraid of the most scandalous exposures of... body parts.) I would love to pair a leotard with these simple slacks (also from American Apparel)..

The unisex slack. (<3.)
Did I mention I love anything unisex? No? Well, there you go. If anything, I LOVE a piece to be versatile.. more bang for my buck. (Oh lord, stop me now.) For a clothing item to fit both me and a member of the opposite sex, that's real craftsmanship to the designer. And is anyone else enchanted by that off-kilter shade of white/cream/eggshell?

Oh, American Apparel.. how thoust tease. Broke teenagers are no match.

And readers! I am ultimately confused on more intricate/ornate (mainly floral) patterns.. I feel as sometimes they branch into crazy-bag-lady kind of territory... yet, a simple complementing cardigan or simple accessory can push it into an ultra-chic feel. My mind can't decipher if it's (to be simple) good or bad. Your thoughts?

(forever 21)

I've always mainly stayed away from floral prints... the statement that a simple solid color makes is timeless, it seems.

The Doc Marten boot.

They certainly provide a unique touch to an outfit, no? This was inspired by Camille's (childhoodflames) and Rumi's (fashion toast) Doc's (Docs? Docs'?) a while ago (I'm too lazy to look up their posts). The first pair of white ones definitely intrigue me... the clean white leather seems to balance out almost any kind of outfit. The black ones are also good -- how do you go wrong with black? The last pair though, I just thought were interesting. Boots are so wonderful.

To branch off a little away from fashion (though all style seems to be fashion anyhow)...

I've been super into the wavy sort of blonde with hints of.. almost a burnt-feeling sort of brown in it? (Wow that just made no sense at all.) hair? I should illustrate more with pictures, haha..

Pretty much the epitome of Erin Wasson and Rumi of Fashion Toast.

(childhood flames)

(fashion toast)

I doubt my hair would magically turn into that instant beach wave look.. though with my current un-tarnished (for a lack of a better word) hair, it becomes wavy by itself sometimes.

Another...

Stunning photograph. And hair color. Hayley Williams (who I completely praise because of her amazing voice) also seems to have the most amazing shades of red. It just feeds my lust of unnaturally-colored hair of about 4 years. Oh, when I turn 18...

I hope this humongo post has made up for the (*gasp!*) over-a-month-long lack of postage. (I just used that in a weird way. I didn't mean stamps, haha.) Comments? What you'd like to see more of? Funny jokes? Leave a comment with your thoughts!

Top - Fruit of the Loom
Skirt - vintage (used to be mama's)

One of my favorite pieces :) I wore this to my volunteer group's end-of-semester celebration tonight. It was quite warm so it was perfect! I wore some white, thick-strapped sandals from Mossimo along with it also, though it's not pictured. (Sorry again for the quality.)
Hello world! This is my first post, obviously. I was so inspired by all of the breathtaking fashion blogs out there that I decided to start my own! There was too much inspiration from people such as childhood flames, fashion toast, and karla's closet! So, I can't wait to sharing my bit in fashion! I'm still trying to get used to blogspot though, haha..

(Be warned.. the image quality is not the best. My apologies.)

I found this blouse today.. and I'm a sucker for shades of blue. Though with my skin tone, I should probably opt for more pinks and reds.. Any suggestions?

blouse - vintage? thrift? secondhand? what's the term here?
pencil skirt - mustard seed (from citiwear)
shoes - vintage

tank top - hanes
pants - vintage
shoes - vintage

I had been meaning to get a pair of pants for when I start work next week, and I found this amazing pair at my local thrift store for about 3 dollars. The waist pretty much fits and the hemmed length is pretty much perfect. This was pretty much freaking awesome.

Well, that's it for my first post. Comments, suggestions? More to post later!
